It was 29th January 2011, Saturday morning and what!!!!!! Suddenly it started raining  my mother words came into my mind that there is no guarantee of weather in Karachi when it changes from sunny hot day to pleasant rainy  day.

Now the sunny day was converted into pleasant rainy day and the main problem was that a team from Dawn News was expected in Jinnah Universty For women in Department of Mass Communication for an extension lecture on “Citizen Journalism”, that means I have to manage to go university in the rain, I rushed to university leaving my home in the awesome weather.

Mr.Owais Mangal wala was the speaker of the lecture, he has been working in Dawn News since 2007 and currently working as producer and anchor in Dawn News, along with his team members arrived in our university to promote the need of citizen Journalism in the society. He started his lecture in an informal way giving examples about citizen journalism from our daily routine. He said that everyone has the right of expression of feelings and in simple words to use that right in journalism is called as Citizen Journalism. In his lecture he describes the four type of Citizen Journalism:          

Sharing of Experience.

Sharing of Opinion.

Sharing of Discovery.

Sharing of Expertise.

                                                             

Through his lecture we gained knowledge about Report Making that what are the key words that we should keep in our mind in order to make an accurate report. He further said that:

“Be creative and try to present every issue in a different way. Don’t wait for a big day or big event just think that for journalist every event is a big event and every day is a big day.Events are all around us but only keen observer eyes can caught them and make an ordinary event extra ordinary through his way of presenting. Keep an eye on each and every issue either big or small,ordinary or extraordinary,its the way of expression and presenting that can make the news or event extraordinary".

In the end he gave a meaningful message to students that “Never rushed towards fame and money just try to work hard and gain excellence in your field, money and fame will automatically rush towards yourself”.

Our respected teachers also participated in this lecture and Miss Humera also shared her views in the end of lecture.She appreciated the work of Dawn News and said that our department expects more lectures from Dawn News. In this way the lecture ended and finally we were free to enjoy the wonderful weather out there.
